With the gift giving season upon us it's nice to spend time making hand crafted toys for the little ones. Since moving away from plastic toys I've found it more and more difficult to find things for older infants and toddlers that are just the right size for small hands, yet indestructible.
This plump ballerina is crocheted and tightly sewn together. Her face is hand painted in a friendly smile with non toxic paint and her hair is crocheted in loops. The loop stitch is ideal for hair and fur and can be modified in many ways including being cut, beaded and braided.
Because this little dancer is intended for a very small child, I've left the hair in loops so as to enable easy cleaning and to provide a hand hold for little fingers.
I'm sold out of these little beauties at the moment but thought I would share with you the pattern for making the loopy crocheted wig. I prefer to make it independent of the doll and shape it according to the head size. Please find the instructions below the following photograph.
Wishing you all the best for the holidays and the New Year! Best to you always-Susanne
Crochet Pattern for Loop Stitch: This is a fun and versatile stitch. For dolls' wigs I crochet in the round. The stitch is also marvelous for crocheting stuffed animals or adding embellishments. The best part about the loop stitch is that the stitches can be cut, leaving individual strands for unraveling, braiding or beading.

Unlike FooFoo who was made famous by the song, this little bunny is actually terribly afraid of field mice.
Thankfully he was adopted by a loving family who owns a cat.
This Chibi Anbu will devote his life as a talisman to the right person. Anbu's small size and swift feet makes him perfect for gathering information and setting up defense perimeters. He is also the luckiest of good luck charms.
If you ever hear the tinkle of tiny bells, make sure to stop whispering and keep your secrets to yourself. Chibi Anbu just might be listening!
(Update: Anbu is now the proud companion of Zacky-kun in Canada.)
